Incheon City, Incheon Technopark, and Celltrion present Incheon's bio-industry and open innovation
cooperation models at 'BIO CHINA 2026,' held on the 12th at the Suzhou International Expo Center, China.
[The Fact | Incheon = Reporter Jae-kyung Kim] Incheon Metropolitan City, together with the Incheon Technopark (Incheon TP) and Celltrion, participated in 'BIO CHINA 2026' held at the Suzhou International Expo Center in China from March 12 to 14. During the event, they introduced Incheon's bio-industry and showcased their collaborative open innovation models.
According to the city, BIO CHINA 2026 is a large-scale international pharmaceutical and biotechnology event that attracts over 30,000 participants from 40 countries and facilitates more than 5,000 one-on-one business consultations.
This participation is part of the "Lead Company-led Open Innovation" project, a new initiative launched by Incheon City this year. This open innovation project aims to discover domestic and international innovative startups based on the technological needs of Celltrion, a leading bio-company in the region, and support them through joint research, Proof of Concept (PoC) testing, and global market entry.
Throughout the exhibition, Incheon City, Incheon TP, and Celltrion jointly promoted the infrastructure of Incheon’s Bio-Specialized Cluster and its open innovation challenge programs. They engaged in technology exchange, investment consultations, and business collaborations with over 400 exhibiting companies, promising Asian bio-enterprises, and investment institutions such as accelerators and venture capitalists.
Furthermore, during the "China-Korea Session" of the international forum held on the first day, the delegation presented the collaborative open innovation model pursued by Incheon and Celltrion, highlighting the potential for global cooperation within Incheon's bio-complex.
The delegation also visited "Biobay" within the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), one of China’s three major bio-clusters, where they held meetings with local industry officials to lay the groundwork for identifying future cooperation partners.
So-young Cho, Director of the city’s Semiconductor and Bio Division, stated, "This participation is a significant first step for Incheon to leap beyond being a mere bio-pharmaceutical production base and become one of Asia's top three bio-open innovation hubs where leading companies and innovative startups grow together." She added, "We will actively provide follow-up support to ensure that collaborations with the discovered promising overseas companies lead to actual investment and commercialization."
Meanwhile, Incheon City and Incheon TP plan to finalize the selection of participating companies for the 'Open Innovation Challenge' this April, based on the global network established during this event, and will officially launch the project to foster collaboration between Celltrion and startups.
